2024 Impact Highlights

The year 2024 was one of significant progress for the Zululand Conservation Trust. Thanks to the dedication of their team and the support of their partners, ZCT continued to make a powerful impact on both wildlife and the surrounding communities. This is a snapshot of some of the key achievements from the past year.

Conservation & Security
105 dangerous wire snares were removed from protected areas. 50 rhinos were successfully dehorned/trimmed as a crucial anti-poaching measure. The launch of a women-led "Fence Guardianship" program has significantly strengthened security efforts. An investment of R245,000 was made to fund the yearly operational expenses for the Drone Surveillance team, including two drones and two pilots. A volunteer program was initiated, generating revenue of nearly R450,000 for conservation projects. R159,653 was invested in facility improvements at the Zululand Rhino Orphanage (ZRO), including new wash bays and an ICU weigh slab.

Community & Education
ZCT supported 4 early learning centers, benefiting 160 children. Over 69,440 meals were provided to children in the early learning centers throughout the year. The Environmental Education Program continued to engage youth through experiential learning to foster generational change. The Future Farmers project expanded its focus on promoting organic farming and creating markets for fresh produce. These achievements are a testament to the hard work and strategic focus of the Zululand Conservation Trust in 2024, proving that every effort, big or small, contributes to the greater mission of conservation.
